The BBC announces launch date and guest stars for brand-new series of Death in Paradise

The BBC has confirmed that Caribbean crime drama Death in Paradise will return with a brand-new series from Friday 30th January 2026 at 9pm

For those in need of some January sunshine, the BBC has confirmed that Caribbean crime drama Death in Paradise, produced by Red Planet Pictures, will return to BBC iPlayer and BBC One with a brand-new series from Friday 30th January 2026 at 9pm. Don Gilet (DI Mervin Wilson), Don Warrington (Commissioner Selwyn Patterson), Shantol Jackson (DS Naomi Thomas), Shaquille Ali-Yebuah (Officer Sebastian Rose) and Catherine Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine) all return as a host of almost uncrackable cases arise across the idyllic isle. Joining the ranks of the police team is newcomer Catherine Garton (The War Between the Land and the Sea) as Sergeant Mattie Fletcher.

As DI Mervin Wilson continues to adjust to life in Saint Marie, he and the police team must face a myriad of baffling cases. But whilst attempting to connect with his recently discovered half-brother Solomon (Daniel Ward), Mervin’s newfound familial happiness soon turns to frustration as he discovers the pair are not quite as similar as he hoped they might be. A returning Commissioner Selwyn Patterson confronts the impact of his recent period of absence, and after some tough love from old friend, Catherine Bordey, he’s determined to win back the trust of the island. Meanwhile, Detective Sergeant Naomi Thomas and Officer Sebastian Rose help new recruit Sergeant Mattie Fletcher settle into the fold, which might be easier said than done as shadows from her past begin to reveal themselves.

The line-up of guest stars setting sail to the sun-drenched isle of Saint Marie for the new series includes: Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley), Hermione Norris (Spooks), Steffan Rhodri (Gavin & Stacey), Ben Willbond (Ghosts), Sarah Hadland (Horrible Histories), Gary Wilmot (Midsomer Murders), Tim McMullan (Shakespeare in Love), Julian Rhind-Tutt (Green Wing), Ace Bhatti (Malpractice), Louis Davison (Vikings: Valhalla), Scarlett Alice Johnson (EastEnders), Sean Delaney (Killing Eve), Lizzie Davidson (Such Brave Girls), Kojo Kamara (The Outlaws), Layo-Christina Akinlude (The Stolen Girl), Sandra James-Young (Wild Cherry), Phoebe Sparrow (Downton Abbey), Antonia Bernath (Downton Abbey), Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge (Rematch) and more.

Death in Paradise continues to be a ratings champion with over 7.5 million viewers watching last year’s series. BBC Studios, who distribute the series, have now licensed Death in Paradise to over 230 territories across the globe. The Death in Paradise franchise has become a global success with the successful spin-off Beyond Paradise set to return for its fourth series later this year. Meanwhile Aussie-set spin-off Return to Paradise recently concluded its second series on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

Filmed on the French Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe, Death in Paradise continues to delight audiences with the perfect blend of exciting escapism, puzzling mysteries, and juicy plot twists set against an idyllic sun-drenched backdrop.
